Sustainability at Brew Coffee

Learn about our sustainability journey and how we are brewing a better future, one cup at a time

We love our people & our planet.

At Brew Coffee Roasters, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s the foundation of how we do business. Since opening our doors in 2006, we’ve been driven by a deep respect for the people who grow our coffee and the planet that makes it possible. From the farm to your cup, we’re committed to doing better—for our communities, our customers, and our environment.

Our Commitment to Sustainable business practices

Sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations. It’s more than a goal—it’s part of our daily rhythm. We’ve built strong, lasting relationships with our suppliers and coffee farmers, and we continually invest in ethical sourcing and responsible business practices.

We know that every step counts. That’s why we’re focused on reducing our carbon footprint and embracing innovative solutions to make our business as eco-friendly as possible. As proud as we are of what we’ve achieved, we know our journey is far from over.

Leading the Way

We’re super proud to join the growing number of businesses in Australia who are working hard to reduce their carbon footprint. We are even prouder to be one of the first WA owned coffee roasters to be certified a carbon neutral organisation by Climate Active.

It’s a testament to our dedication to environmental responsibility and sets a benchmark for others in our industry to follow. As we take pride in this achievement, we’re very aware that there’s more work to be done to ensure a sustainable future!

We’ve implemented a number of sustainability initiatives across our business to actively reduce our impact on the environment

How We're Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations. Since our journey began in 2006, we've held firm to our core values, actively supporting initiatives such as Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, and the Young Farmers Project. Our commitment to sustainability isn't just for show; it's embedded in our daily practices.

Closed-Loop Recycling
All packaging and boxes used in our operations are recycled.
Coffee Waste Repurposed
Our roasted by-product husks and café-used coffee grounds are collected by a local third-party business and turned into compost and mulch.
Reusable Café Containers
We provide reusable coffee tubs to our café partners to reduce single-use packaging.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
We’ve transitioned all retail coffee pouches to soft plastic recyclable bags and exclusively stock compostable and recyclable eco-packaging products, including cups, lids, and straws.

Measuring our impact

In 2022, we took a significant step forward by engaging a Carbon Consultant to measure our business practices carbon emissions accurately. This eye-opening (and mammoth) experience prompted us to develop an Emissions Reduction Strategy, focusing on reducing controlled electricity, diesel, and green bean emissions.

In the 2022-2023 financial year, we reported a total of 799 metric tonnes of carbon emissions from our business practices. To offset our footprint, we’ve partnered with impactful projects:

In 2023, we installed a Loring Roaster, the most environmentally friendly coffee roaster on the market. It uses up to 80% less fuel than conventional roasters, resulting in 80% fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

We also continue to use our Brambatti Roaster, fitted with an afterburner that converts emissions into liquid oxygen—reducing environmental impact during the roasting process.

Pacajai REDD+ Project: The Pacajai REDD+ project is dedicated to forest protection, providing legal land-use permits, sustainable livelihood alternatives, and agroforestry techniques to local communities. It’s our commitment to prevent over 10 million tonnes of harmful CO2 from entering the atmosphere over the project’s lifetime!

Midilli Hydroelectric Plant: Contributing to Turkey’s sustainable development priorities, the Midilli Hydroelectric plant not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions, but also creates jobs and promotes know-how dissemination. How good!

Our Journey So Far

Since day one, we’ve been driven by the belief that great coffee can—and should—be a force for good. Our sustainability journey has been full of big goals, bold steps, and valuable lessons. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.

We’re proud of the milestones we’ve achieved, and we’re energised by the challenges ahead. With every roast, every shipment, and every cup, we’re working toward a future that’s brighter, cleaner, and more connected—for everyone.

Together, we brew better.
